Nikolai Medvedev, born in 1986, is a distinguished pianist celebrated for his technical prowess and emotive performances. His musical education began at the Rimsky-Korsakov Music College in Krasnodar. He continued his advanced studies at the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music in Moscow under the guidance of world renowned professor Tatiana Zelikman. He has been mentored by many esteemed musicians including Nikolai Petrov, Dmitry Bashkirov, Emanuel Krasovsky, Alexander Mndoyants, Vladimir Tropp, Jerome Rose, Vladimir Viardo, José Ribera, William Noll. His exceptional talent has earned him scholarships from the A.Glazunov Foundation (Germany), New Names Foundation, and Russian Performing Arts Foundation. In 2010, he was awarded the most prestigious Triumph Youth Prize in Russia.
Medvedev has performed at major venues in various countries including Ukraine, France, Austria, Germany, Denmark, Norway, South Africa, the USA and China. He has collaborated with renowned conductors such as Klaus Mäkelä (as a cellist), Paolo Bartolomeolli, William Noll, Murad Annamamedov, Vladimir Ponkin, Eugene Bushkov and others. Medvedev is also a sought-after accompanist for soloists from the most prestigious Opera houses, including the Royal Opera House, Berlin Staatsoper Unter den Linden, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Bayern Staatsoper, Zürich Opera House, and others.
Nikolai Medvedev has achieved notable success in several international piano competitions, including the International Pancho Vladigerov Piano Competition in Shumen, Bulgaria (3rd prize), the International Piano Competition in Campillos, Spain (2nd prize), the International Vladimir Horowitz Competition in Kiev, Ukraine (2nd prize and a special prize Salle Cortot), the International Piano Competition in memory of Vera Lotar-Schewtschenko in Yekaterinburg, Russia (1st prize), the XV International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow, Russia (semi-finalist).
From 2016 to 2022, N. Medvedev served as a faculty member in solo piano and chamber music at the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music in Moscow.
In July 2022, Medvedev moved to Berlin due to political and personal convictions. He has since been active in the German concert scene, performing extensively throughout the country and abroad and participating in social initiatives such as supporting Ukrainian refugees.
